Home-recorded DVDs were how a lot of families saved their videos through the 2000s, whether burned on a DVD recorder or made from an earlier tape transfer. Burned discs don't last as long as most people expect, though. The recording layer slowly breaks down with age, scratches and disc rot can make a disc skip or stop playing altogether, and fewer computers and TVs come with a DVD drive each year. I copy the video off each disc into a digital file you can watch on any phone, computer or TV, and back up so your memories aren't relying on a single disc anymore.
